Synopsis
A comedy-drama play about misunderstandings, love and deception based on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing but in modern-day English set in the 1950s rock ’n’ roll era. Ex-resistance fighters, Benedick, Claudio and Don Pedro arrive at Leonato’s Italian restaurant in Messina. Beatrice (Leonato’s niece) and Benedick clearly have some history together and enjoy bickering with each other – but is there more to their relationship than trading banter? Claudio falls in love with Leonato’s daughter, Hero, and a wedding is soon arranged. However, Don’s half-brother, John, is determined to cause trouble for Claudio and John’s girlfriend, Valentina (who has been rejected by the townspeople because of her family) plots to damage the reputation of the spotless Hero. Can cleaners and keen neighbourhood watchers, Dogberry and Verges help and can Don and his friends plot to fix Benedick and Beatrice up as a couple….
