Synopsis

Fast, funny, with toe curling comedy of campsite manners and social pretensions, the play concerns a slightly dull, slightly snobby middle-aged couple embarking on their first caravan holiday who find their neighbours on the campsite to be younger, working class and above all earthy. Their lives will never be the same again.

Directors Notes

As anyone who knows me will tell you I am a massive lover of comedy. Be it on the TV or in the theatre if it’s funny I will watch it. They will also tell you that I am a great lover of John Godber’s work. I will go far and wide to watch any piece written by him and find the characters in his plays fascinating. I have been lucky enough to be involved in many plays written by him both in acting and production and did not need to be asked twice when given the opportunity to produce Perfect Pitch.

Godber’s plays usually follow a set pattern where he will throw people of all classes together, be it a rugby team, a night club or a school, and see where it takes him. Perfect Pitch explores the world of caravanning, that great summer holiday, and he uses this world to explore the class divide and troubled relationships. The play has great comedy but it has its darker moments too and a touch of sadness and will be sure to get you thinking.

It is a great honour to be asked to direct here at BLT and the theatre and its army of people who help to run this wonderful organisation are always very welcoming. It is super smashing great to see so many smiling faces after all our trials over the credit crunch and dark winter months, so I hope that we will be able to send everyone home greatly entertained and happy.

Enjoy.
