Synopsis

There are two teams, in this Godber play about seven-a-side Rugby League football, one very successful, the other..? However it would spoil the evening’s entertainment if the plot and its surprising outcome were detailed here. It is certainly Godber at his funniest, promoting gales of both laughter and cheers not tears – from the audience. A play where everyone can sit back, enjoy the fun – and go home nursing aching sides.

Directors Notes

Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this evening’s Sevens final.

It’s certainly a surprise final – not, of course, to see the the famous “COBBLERS’ – coached by that great League stalwart, Reg Welsh; a brilliant team, unbeaten for two and a half years, they certainly start as tonight’s favourites.

But how about their opponents – the ‘WHEATSHEAF’ from Bradford have not had the best of seasons – played 17 lost 17..

However, new player-coach Arthur Hoyle has instilled a fresh resolve into the lads from the ‘Sheaf and has coached them to tonight’s final – aided, admittedly, by a ‘bye’ in every round.

A great final is in prospect. Let’s get behind the lads, ladies and gentlemen, and roar our favourites on to victory

Remember the words of that great League stalwart Robert ‘Bruiser’ Browning

Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, Or what’s a heaven for?
