Synopsis

A thriller by the author of “Rosemary’s Baby.’ In a restaurant one evening a man and a woman have seen Susan Kerner, a Boston college student, with her young man and, struck by her strong resemblance to Veronica Brabissant, the long-dead daughter of the people for whom they work, have persuaded her to come to the Brabissant home. The play, and the nightmare, begin as Susan enters the dim, sheet-shrouded room that had been Veronica’s own.

Directors Notes

“This absorbing spider’s web, entwining fantasy and reality.”

Like a good wine Veronica’s Room has improved with time. It is even more true to life in 1996 than it was when it was first performed in New York over twenty years ago. Ira Levin gives us a tightly written and disturbing study of human behaviour under great pressure. Although it is set in America you will find these people anywhere, but not, we hope, too close to you! Psychologically profound and accurate, the play gradually unfolds not only what caused the behaviour but also how it tragically affected other initially innocent people. It is a truly chilling thriller, full of dark secrets; so sit back, put your toffees away, and prepare for some surprises!

“Something has switched over in the mind; I’ve heard of that happening when people can’t face reality”
