Season 48 Play 4 – Rattle Of A Simple Man by Charles Dyer
Directed by
Cast
Percy – Richard Smith
Ricard – Antony Howley
Synopsis
A refreshing look at perhaps the oldest professional situation – Percy from Manchester finds himself in X Certificate circumstances, in a flat in London and out of his depth. Again and again, as he says, he keeps coming up ‘against the dots….I’. If you saw the play in 1965 you’ll enjoy it again, if the revival is new to you it will amuse you afresh.
Directors Notes
Charles Dyer’s ‘Rattle of a Simple Man’ is both a love story and a comedy of errors; it tells the story of two victims of circumstance, Percy and Cyrenne, Percy a lonely football fanatic and Cyrenne a beautiful gentle whore. The play was first produced and indeed is set
in the early 1960s but could, just as easily, have been set in the present. Though nearly thirty five years have passed since it was written, the Percys and Cyrennes of this world are still rattling their rattles and selling their wares.
We hope you enjoy your evening.
