Cast
George – Harry Chapman
Synopsis
George meets Doris in a California inn, in 1951 and they agree to conduct an adulterous love affair for one day every year. For the other 364 days they remain happily married family people. We meet them every five years or so – in the same hotel room – and their changing personalities reflect the changing times of 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s America. A long-running and very successful Broadway hit comedy and later a popular film.
Directors Notes
Bernard Slade’s “Same Time Next Year” was first performed in New York in 1975. In spite of the hugely popular film version of the play , little seems to be known of the author’s work in Britain. The piece is a sophisticated, charming, highly amusing observation of two lovers in a situation we all might secretly envy! Or perhaps it might happen more often than we think.
I hope you’ll laugh a great deal and I won’t look if you wipe away a sentimental tear!
