Directors Notes

The author describes this play as being “mainly about the danger of not looking around from time to time to see where we have been or where we are going.’

Although there is much in the play which is amusing, there is none the less a strong undercurrent of tragedy, the tragedy of human beings who have forgotten how to communicate and for whom life has become a ritual.

The Hamsters are two such people and even when the mysterious and mischievous Peter Pounce involves them in his own Walter Mitty fantasies they continue to re-act, as he says, “like a couple of hypnotized hens with their beaks on a chalk line.”

“Out of the Crocodile” is an unusual play and not always a comfortable one-_-we hope you will enjoy it !
