Directors Notes

We are living in an age when the break-down of human relationships is common-place; often caused by a clash of personalities, a lack of compatability or simply an inability to communicate. William Gibson, the author of “Two for the Seesaw’ has a very keen sense of perception which has enabled him to write most effectively about the conflict of emotions, as I am sure anyone who has seen “The Miracle Worker” will agree.

This two-character play relates the story of a love affair between two lonely people Jerry Ryan, a lawyer from Nebraska who has recently separated from his wife and Gittel Mosca, a warm-hearted dancer from the Bronx. Set in their two flats, in New York, the action encompasses a period of nine months and by a subtle mixture of comedy and pathos, the author involves us in the “seesawing” of their love affair.
