Directors Notes

Many of you will be familiar with the works of the author from television plays, amongst them “To see how far it is” and his contributions to the vintage years of “Z Cars”. Some of you will also remember our very successful production of “Close the coalhouse door” which we staged several years ago in the old theatre.

This play is not at all like that one except in the feeling of concern for people of all kinds which is present in both plays.

Alan Plater lives in Hull and helped to found the Hull Arts Centre where “And a little love besides” was first produced in 1970. We have kept to this date because of certain incidents in the play, but it could be happening at any time.

I hope you will be moved to laughter, and perhaps near to tears.
