Synopsis
A delicious confection of make-believe and mistaken identities, of sparkling songs and young love set in the Nice of the 1920s when the ambition of all the Young Ladies of Mme. Dubonnet’s finishing school is the acquisition of a beau and discovering the identity of Polly’s mysterious “Boy Friend”.
Directors Notes
I have always felt that the most hair-raising part of being a Director is not the production but having to write the ‘Director’s Notes’. As you will see below, this is the case. However, I have no difficulty in being able to say how delighted I am to be surrounded by so many friends, old and new, in this current production of ‘The Boy Friend’.
Tony Cross and I danced together at the Alhambra over 30 years ago and Pat and Peter Walker have shared the boards many times with me over a 40 year span. Elisabeth Nott and I go back over 30 years too and I knew Belinda Smith as a babe in arms The rest of the cast and backstage team are more recent acquaintances but I hope they will will not be offended if I call them friends.
‘The Boy Friend’ hardly needs any Introduction to longstanding members and audiences of B.L.T., for Its performance in 1964 was a memorable one, in which Tony. Elisabeth and my husband David all took part.
It is a joyous, lighthearted show, full of unforgettable tunes, yet short enough to enable you to go home singing or visit the Victorla Bar afterwards.
We have Immensely enjoyed our rehearsals and we hope you in turn enjoy the performance. Join In the singing If you wish, but we may contravene fire regulations If you dance in the aisles!
