Synopsis
A tale of modern manners, enforced self sufficiency, poverty, unwanted pregnancy and a failing marriage. But also a wonderful story of the joy and heartbreak of bearing and rearing children, of the fun of shared experiences, the warmth of friendship and the love and support which women give to each other.
Directors Notes
Whale Music’ is a series of snapshots of the unfolding story of Caroline’s pregnancy. It is a tale about a group of young women and lifestyles in England during the ‘9Os. We see them coping with being independent and living outside the support and restraints of close
family ties. We see them coping with living within the family circle and the expectations this can bring. We see the strength and the vulnerability, the bitterness and the hurt, the joy and the pleasure. We see the fun and frolics when they discard their adulthood and, for a brief while, become carefree children again. I marvel at the courage, resilience and hope that ordinary people bring to life. I hope we can share some of this with you and bring a laugh to your lips and a lump to your throat.
